The Nebraska Center for Virology is sponsoring its first ten-week Undergraduate Summer Research Experience in Virology from June 2 to August 8, 2003. This program is designed to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students from other institutions to learn more about virology and our graduate programs at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Three students from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, were selected to work on research projects in different UNL research labs this summer under the supervision of NCV mentors. USREV, funded by the Nebraska Center for Virology, provides room and board and a living allowance. In addition, each student will earn three credit hours from Truman State upon completion of their requirements which include a progress report submitted to the UNL faculty mentor and to Dr. Scott Ellis, Truman State USREV advisor, and a presentation of their research results given at a local or regional scientific meeting.
This summer’s students include: Jennifer Fuller, a junior Biology major; Abigail Smith, a sophomore Biology major; and junior Biology major Heather Webb. Their mentors (respectively) are: Dr. Asit Pattnaik, Dr. Charles Wood, and Dr. Clinton Jones.
