Office of Research
The Office of Research and Economic Development promotes and facilitates the university’s research enterprise, strategic partnerships and technology development efforts. During the past decade, Nebraska has achieved a 26% increase in total research expenditures, with a goal to approach $450 million by 2025.
UNL achieved $317 million in the 2019 fiscal year, representing a 2.8% increase from the previous year and marking a ninth consecutive year of increased growth. Total research expenditures reflect the amount invested annually on research and development activities, and are considered a key indicator of growth and research quality.
NUtech Ventures
NUtech Ventures is a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Nebraska established to commercialize technologies by forming innovative R&D partnerships between university researchers and the private sector. NUtech measures its success by the number of companies, products and jobs created by University of Nebraska research.
For the third consecutive year, the University of Nebraska system ranks among the top 100 academic institutions worldwide in earning U.S. patents.
Nebraska Innovation Campus
Nebraska Innovation Campus is a 249-acre public/private research and technology center adjacent to the university’s City Campus. Already with more than 50 diverse partners, NIC is a growing center of innovation and economic development for the state and the university.
