International Law

International Law is defined as the body of law governing relations between nations. The term also is divided into either public or private international law. Public international law governs the relationship between states and international organizations. This includes international criminal law and international humanitarian law. Private international law governs private transactions and disputes between parties from differing nations. Although Nebraska Law has alumni practicing internationally in diverse places such as Beijing, China, Rome, Italy, Singapore and Guam, the majority of our alumni practicing in the area of international law do so from the United States. One example of this is our alumnus, Andy Massey, who is the general counsel for Valmont Industries, an international corporation based in Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Massey’s job has him dealing with the diverse laws of India, Ethiopia, Australia and many other nations in which Valmont does business. One of the most likely venues to deal in international law is the federal government and related agencies.
