Using an Outside Facilitator

Using an Outside Facilitator

Communities that have completed the ECAP process have recommended an external facilitator. An external facilitator allows all members of the community to contribute fully.  The external facilitator will help in creating accountability and keeping the conversations interactive and participatory.  The facilitator will focus on the process.

To be prepared, the facilitator should be able to answer these questions about the community:
  • Who lives in this community?
  • How are community members doing financially?
  • What are the population trends, employment, etc.?
  • How is the community doing as a whole?
  • What type of resources do you have to work?
  • What other activities is the community currently undertaking or recently completed?

An easy way to get started is to ask these questions to the steering team.   This is to help the facilitator and the steering team have a better/mutual understanding of the community. Resources to find demographic data include the Census Bureau, Nebraska Interactive Dashboard.
