Striving Toward Racial Equity

We believe that racism is a socially-constructed issue that has become weaved into every aspect of society over centuries of colonization, imperialism, and oppression.

In the past, racism was easy to spot, with the cruelty of slavery, lynchings, anti-immigrant laws, and more. Today, however, racism is much harder to put into words or to easily point out. Good people have no conscious agendas against people of color, and even consciously believe that they don't have a racist bone in their body, yet we have all largely internalized problematic narratives about various groups of people. History of colonization and imperialism created narratives that persist in stories we tell across entertainment, marketing, education, and more. Those narratives shape public policy, interpersonal interactions, and even the way people of color see themselves.

In the Racial Justice Alliance, we hope to humanize people of all backgrounds, to see every person as a human being worthy of love and human rights, to speak up against racism(s), and to take action toward racial justice by supporting local organizations and policy efforts.
