Barbara Woodhead has been appointed permanent director of Services for Students with Disabilities. Previously interim director, Woodhead transitions into this role having already made a significant impact on both the department and students’ academic and personal success in college.

Maggie Murphy, a textiles, merchandising, and fashion design major from Omaha, may have come to campus with reservations and vulnerability. But after seeking out communities on campus and immersing herself in her major, the May 2023 grad found her home at Nebraska.

Welcoming students, faculty and staff with a warm smile and joyous laughter, Melissa Wulf enjoys her daily interactions as she assists with testing accommodations and oversees the SSD Testing Center in Louise Pound Hall.

Wulf has served in her role as testing center coordinator for more than 23 years. From proctoring exams in overcrowded testing rooms in Canfield to coordinating paper exams in the new testing center in Pound Hall, Wulf’s role continues to evolve based on students’ needs, yet her passion for creating equitable academic experiences remains steadfast.

Kelli King has been named an assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. She starts in the new role on Aug. 1.

David Strang, an events associate with Academic Services and Enrollment Management, wears a face shield from Nebraska Innovation Campus while visiting with fellow Huskers. The face shields will be distributed to offices and colleges across campus to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Aiming to bridge gaps in accessibility, the university’s Services for Students with Disabilities office will begin offering clear face shields made at Nebraska Innovation Studio to colleges and offices across campus.

Student Affairs is honored to have 81 individuals receiving Service Awards in 2018. The annual awards are presented to university employees who complete years of service in five-year intervals. Awards are calculated both on consolidated or continuous regular employment.

Tuesday, October 24, 2017 Harris leads conversation on disabilities

On Friday, Oct. 27, more than 70 employees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln participated in a professional development program on disabilities and interpersonal communication sponsored by Student Affairs. Presenter Richard Harris, retired director of student disability services at Ball State University, addressed common stereotypes through cartoons and led a discussion on how cartoons have brought disability issues to the mainstream.
