KRNU a finalist for College Radio Awards

September 27 — For the second consecutive year KRNU is a finalist at this year’s College Music Journal’s College Radio Awards. The winners will be announced at 4 p.m. in New York City on October 18.

KRNU has been nominated for “Best Community Resource” and “Biggest Champion of the Local Scene.”

KRNU general manager Rick Alloway said, “These areas of recognition are of particular importance to us, since we are really striving to expand further upon the station’s long history of local community support.”

Joe Teplitsky, music director, and Lucas Miller, marketing director, have been the key players and deserve the credit for this national recognition, Alloway said.

“Joe and Lucas helped launch ‘KRNU Sessions’ in September. Lincoln and Omaha area bands that fit the station’s format and are new to the indie scene come into the studio to perform live.

“I am very proud of them and their efforts to support local artists and broadcast new music on behalf of the station and the university.”

The College Radio Awards and College Day are the main events of the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival. The stations and industry that make up CMJ’s radio community submitted nominations.

Joe Teplitsky helps identify bands that match KRNU’s indie music format. Teplitsky works with national promoters to keep music content on KRNU fresh. He also networks with the local music scene to get local artists on the air. Teplitsky establishes programming on the station to give equal rotation for bands while maintaining a standardized format.

Lucas Miller develops the brand of the station and promotes the station in the Lincoln market. Miller established underwriting packages for clients who support the station in exchange for promotion on campus. He also works with other community organizations to organize public service announcements to highlight important events happening in the community.

KRNU includes 90.3 KRNU and KRNU 2.  KRNU is dedicated to bringing new music to its listeners and highlighting local artists. KRNU’s vision is of a bustling music scene that is supported by local businesses and embraced by the 18-to-24-year-olds and the community alike.
