UNL photo students swept the student competition at the 2010 Nebraska News Photographers Association still-photo contest. Winners were announced April 10 during the NNPAĆs spring meeting.
News-editorial sophomore Patrick Breen was named Photographer of the Year in the college division, and senior news-editorial student Travis Beck was the runner-up.
In addition, several other College of Journalism and Mass Communications students and a faculty member earned NNPA awards and recognition.
Travis Beck, Omaha, won first and third place in the general news category, second place in feature, an honorable mention in portrait/personality, first place in pictorial, two honorable mentions in sports action and second place in the picture story category.
Danielle Beebe, York, won an honorable mention in sports feature.
Patrick Breen, Omaha, won first, second and third place awards in the sports action category, first place and an honorable mention in sports feature and first place in the picture story category.
Kyle Bruggeman, Lincoln, won third place in the feature category, second place and an honorable mention in portrait/personality and third place in pictorial.
Andrew Dickinson, Fairway, Kan., won an honorable mention in sports action.
Andrew Lamberson, Robbinsville, N.J., won second place in the spot news category and an honorable mention in portrait/personality.
Clay Lomneth, Omaha, won first place in the spot news category, first place and an honorable mention in the feature category, honorable mention in general news, first and third place in portrait/personality, second place and an honorable mention in pictorial, third place in sports feature and third place in the picture story category.
John Schreier, Omaha, won third place in the spot news category.
Bruce Thorson, associate professor of news editorial, won first place in the portrait/personality category, first place in pictorial, and second place in the picture story category.
J school graduates Alyssa Schukar and Matt Miller were recognized by NNPA for their work in the professional division. Schukar of the Omaha World-Herald and 2006 CoJMC graduate was named Photographer of the Year, and Matt Miller, also of the World-Herald was the runner-up. Miller graduated in 2000.
Schukar also won second and third place in the portrait/personality category, first place in sports feature and third place in the picture story category. Miller won first place in the general news category, first place and second place in feature and third place in the picture story category.
