Caitlin Kern, from Maple Grove, Minn., has been selected to staff the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ABC News on Campus bureau. Kern joins bureau chief Charles Litton and bureau members Teresa Lostroh and Andrew Mach.
A senior, Kern spent last summer covering sports for the Fox affiliate (KMSP) in Minneapolis. She was also selected for The Omaha World-Herald Fellowship during the spring 2010 semester where she wrote and produced videos for the print and online editions. Kern also produced videos for HuskerVision, the marketing arm of the university's athletic department. She will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in broadcasting and advertising/public relations and concentrations in Spanish, English and History.
The UNL ABC News on Campus Bureau, partially subsidized from private donations to the university, is located in a state-of-the-art studio in Andersen Hall. The bureau is equipped with the industry's top cameras, computers and editing software and is responsible for all multimedia newsgathering responsibilities.
Opened in August 2009, the ABC News on Campus bureau offers students the opportunity to work with and learn from professionals at a national broadcast news network. The program is a partnership between ABC's news division and six of the nation's leading journalism schools—University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Arizona State University, Syracuse University, University of Florida, University of Texas at Austin and Howard University. Senior CoJMC students staff the bureau throughout the year.
