Kay Kemmet, a freshman news-editorial major from Bismarck, N.D., won the Ted Kooser Award for Outstanding First-Year Writers. The UNL English department sponsors the awards.
Kemmet, who was nominated by an instructor, submitted up to 10 pages of written work. Students from each first-year writing section in the fall and spring semester were eligible for the award.
Kemmet will be honored at the English department awards celebration and presented with a $300 prize on April 29 at 3:00 p.m. in the Dudley Bailey Library, 229 Andrews Hall. The contest reading for winners will be on April 28 from 3-5pm.
