Students sweep SPJ

For the third year in a row UNL journalism students were ranked best in the region in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence competition for Region Seven.

The students nearly swept the awards in radio and photojournalism and also did well in the news/editorial competition. Jerry Renaud, broadcasting, and Dick Streckfuss, news/editorial, organized the entries for competition. UNL’s SPJ advisers are Hubert Brown and John Bender.

The recipients follow:

Broadcasting – Teresa Deskins, 1st in radio spot news; Wendy Vn Moorleghem, 1st in radio feature, 2nd in radio spot news, 2nd in radio in-depth; KRNU Radio news staff, 3rd in radio in-epth; cidny Roubal, 2nd in radio feature.

Photojournalism - Kiley Timperley, 1st in feature photography; Katerine J. Gordon, 1st in sports photography; Staci McKee, 1st in spot news photography, 3rd in sports photography.

News/Editorial - Todd Cooper, 1st in spot news reporting; Carrissa Moffat-Miller, 1st in feature writing; jefferey Zeleny, 2nd in feature writing; Brian Shellito, 1st in editorial carooning; Jean Lass, 2nd in sports writing; Chris hopfensperger, 2nd in editorial writing.
