1931

William McCleery, Princeton, NJ, is author of a children’s book, Wolf Story, first published in 1947. It was republished in 1988 and, he reports, is “doing well” McCleery also wrote a play titled “Good Morning, Miss Dove.”

1935

Marian Brislane, San Francisco, CA, made a career in social work but says she still relies on morning and afternoon newspapers for news. “It is hard to believe that it was almost 60 years ago that I learned to set type by hand in the basement of long-gone University Hall.

1938

Sara Luhr, Falls Church, VA, is a volunteer writer for a publication, contributing features about local places or institutions or pieces like the “Around and About” column she wrote for the Daily Nebraskan when she was in school. She is 77 years old an says of her continued involvement in newspapers, “Once a writer always a writer, I think.”

1940

June Bierbower, Lacey, WA, has relocated there from Pullman, WA, where she was a long-time Washington State University news bureau associate.

1949

Jack Botts, Lincoln, retired in 1990 from his position as professor and chairman of the news/editorial department at the UNL college of Journalism. His new book, The Language of News, will be published in spring, 1994, by Iowa State University Press.

Bernice Goldman, Miami, FL, writes a periodic news bulletin for her high school classmates, who will celebrate their 50-year reunion in 1995. She also volunteers as a guide at Decorative Arts Museum, at her synagogue and as a monitor in day care centers funded by the county. She and her husband have two children and three grandchildren.

1950

Leo Geier, Annapolis, MD, is still working as director of planned giving for the University of Maryland system.

Karl Keith, Council Bluffs, Iowa, retired in 1990 from the Omaha World-Herald. Since then, he has been a part-time instructor of news editing at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

1951

Ken Wayman, Sioux City, Iowa, is serving his first term on the University of Nebraska Alumni Association board of directors. His daughter Mary Kay Wayman works at the copy desk of the Lincoln Journal.

1957

John Noble, Kansas City, Mo, is the sports editor for the Dispatch-Tribune newspaper in Kansas City.

1960

Diana Reische, Wilton, CT, has recently written two books for young adults: Electing a President, published in 1992, and Arafat and the PLO, published in 1991.

Dr. Elizabeth M. Stout, Defiance, MO, earned a Ph.D. In social psychology in 1978 and is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. Her research includes studies of disaster, homelessness and substance abuse. “My journalism background is invaluable in writing grants and papers,” she says.

1967

Frank Partsch, Omaha, is editorial page editor at the Omaha World-Herald. He and his wife Paula are the parents of a daughter, Catherine, who graduated this spring from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN.

1968

Eileen Wirth, Omaha has written a book, “How to Adopt a Child from Another Country,” that has been published by Abingdon Press. She is on the journalism faculty at Creighton University, Omaha.

1969

Donald O. Shurtleff, Redwood City Police Department. He writes a weekly training bulletin that goes to 30 police agencies around the Bay Area. His wife Dorthy Gray is a San Francisco police officer. They met at the UNL School of Journalism.

Cheryl Tritt, Washington, D.C., who earned a B.S. in education with a major in journalism, is the head of the Federal Communications Commission’s Common Carrier Bureau.

1970

Cecelia Boone, St. Louis Park, MN, is the editor of MULS, a union list of serial publications owned by more than 200 libraries in Minnesota and the Dakotas. She also edits the newsletter of her agency, MINITEX, a Minnesota state agency that works to help libraries (academic, public and special) share their resources more effectively.

Nancy Hickok, Woodbridge, VA, has her own company, Words by Design, which handles and training. She received a professional certification as a specialized trainer in June from Georgetown University. She has been married for the past 24 years to John Hickok, and they have a daughter, Wendy, 11.

1971

Linda Baldwin O’Hern, Madison, WI, is the marketing/sales director for Isthmus, an alternative news weekly in Madison. She previously spent 14 years in public television and five years in financial marketing.

1972

Mary Hepburn, Bethesda, MD, is public affairs specialist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. She writes and edits information on health issues for the public.

Nance Kirk, Lincoln, is director of communications for the Nebraska Motor Carriers Association in Lincoln.

1973

Doug Parrott, Omaha, joined Bozell Worldwide’s Omaha office as public relations management supervisor in January.

Billie Strand, Minneapolis, is television production manager for the University of Minnesota Media Resources Department.

Steven Strasser, Hong Kon, is Asia Regional Editor for Newsweek.

1974

Connie Sorensen Birk, Herrin, IL, is completing course work in English at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.

Ellyn Hess, Hallifax, PA, is a tour manager with Jetsave Travel, London, England and a freelance editor.

David McBride, Lincoln, is president of McBride and Associates, Inc., an association management company in Lincoln. He and his wife Lavon have a daughter Alyssa, 3.

1975

Albert Sass, Phoenix, AZ, produced a documentary that received a Gold Award in 1992 from the International Film and TV Festival of New York and a Silver Award from the Chicago International Film Festival. In addition, he has a total of 13 regional Emmys in the past six years, including two Rocky Mountain Emmys in 1992.

1976

Dr. Peggy Kreshael, Athens, GA, earned the 1992 University of Georgia, Athens (UGA), Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. She was also promoted to associate professor with tenure at UGA.

Terry Pitkin, Scottsbluff, is journalism advisor at Scotsbluff High School.

Margo Young, Lincoln, and her husband Richard A. DeFusco, are the parents of a daughter, Rachel, born Nov. 30, 1992.

1977

Philip Johnson, Eden Prairie, MN, is a manager of the agribusiness division at Colle and McVoy, Inc, a marketing communications firm in the Twin Cities $63 million in annual billing.

Mark Rhoades, Blair, is publisher of two weekly newspapers, general manager of a central printing plant and owns a small video production company. He and his wife have two sons, ages 12 and 8.

1978

Paula Dittrick, Houston, TX, is Houston bureau chief for The Oil Daily, a newspaper about the energy industry. She joined The Oil Daily in 1993 after working 11 years for UPI.

Kent Swain, Nashville, TN, is an account executive with Viacom Cable, Nashville. He has founded an organization called Tennesseans for Nebraska.

Barbara Ugai, Durango, CO, and her husband Mark have two sons, ages 6 and 1. She is a bookkeeper for her husband’s dental practice, “but my main job title is ‘mom,’” she says.

1979

Matthew Foreman, Santa Ana, CA, is an asset liability analyst for Western Federal Corporate C.U. He earned the MBA degree from Pepperdine University in 1991.

Deborah Holmes, Kansas City, MO, is a reporter/producer for two news programs at KCPT, Kansas City.

Monica Frank Pribil, Lincoln, earned the MA degree in journalism from UNL in 1990.

Jack D. Shockley, Lawrence, KS, has been in the Air Force since 1981 and was recently promoted to major. He has been married since 1985, and he and his wife have two sons, Brian, 4, and Mark, 1.

Glenn Prettyman, Omaha, has been named director of marketing for Three Cedars/Culver and Associates, Omaha.

Steven Tallon, Woodland Hills, CA, is advertising coordinator and director for the largest retail bedding outlet in southern California.

1981

Cheryl Kisling-Crouch, Aurora, CO, is director of development at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. Her husband Don Crouch is Engineer in Charge at ESPN. They have two daughters, Sara, 12, and Katie, 9.

Thomas Prentiss, Palatine, IL, has moved to the news desk of the Arlington Heights Daily Herald after eight years in sports. His primary focus is on the wire desk.

Nancy Rice, Omaha, teaches journalism at Ralston High School. She is also adviser to the newspaper and yearbook. She and her husband Greg have two children Katie, 4, and Becca, 2.

Glenn Way, Atlanta, GA, is general sales manager at WVEE/WAOK, Atlanta. The most recent addition to his family is a six-month-old girl named Madison.

1982

Rich Claussen, Lincoln, was awarded the Silver Medal Award by the Advertising Federation of Lincoln in January.

Andrew and Margaret Ozaki, Lincoln, are the parents of one son, Marshall. Andrew has worked at KETV, Omaha, for eight years. Margaret (Reist) has worked at the Lincoln Journal for six years.

Joseph E. Pittman, Omaha, is public relations coordinator with Mutual of Omaha Companies. He also teaches advertising copywriting part-time at Creighton University, Omaha. He and his wife have two children.

1983

Jamielle Linn, Omaha, has been an account executive with KFAB Radio, Omaha, for four years. She was married in 1984 and is the mother of two boys, ages 6 and 5.

Janey L. (Wigodsky) Mason, Oshkosh, WI, married John Mason in 1991 and moved to Oshkosh, WI, where she is now media buyer/planner at FH&K Advertising.

Patricia (Gallagher) Newberry, Cincinnati, OH, has been a business reporter with the Cincinnati Enquirer since October, 1986.

1984

Laura Bommer, Omaha, is a sales representative for Honda Cars of Bellevue. She was the winner of the dealership’s Walk-Around Contest and earned second place in the district contest.

Sheila Hyland-Miller, Pittsburgh, Pa, is a weekend anchor and weekend reporter at WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh. She has been with the station since 1988.

Michael Nelson, Overland Park, KS, is managing editor of the Johnson County Edition of the Kansas City Star.

Dulcie Schoener, WI, is the news systems editor at the Milwaukee Journal. She and her husband Scott have two children, Tegan, 6, and Nathaniel, 2. “Both my newspaper job and motherhood are full-time. I feel very busy but very happy,” Schoner writes.

Lisa Nestler, Downers Grove, IL, is a media planner at Ogilvy and Mather, Chicago. She is married to Greg Nestler.

Joel Sartone, Lincoln, is the photographer whose photo appeared on the cover of the April, 1993, issue of National Geographic.

1986

Kristin Camp, Omaha, is a classified account executive at the Omaha World-Herald. Her husband Scott is a registered architect with Purdy/Slack in Omaha.

Michelle Kubik, Ft. Collins, CO, joined the copy desk at the Ft. Collins Coloradoan in the summer of 1992.

1987

Dorothy and Kent Endacott live at Alexandria, CA. She is press secretary to Nebraska Senator James Exon. Kent has just completed his second year at Creighton Law School.

Scott Dobry, Omaha, is self-employed as a commercial photographer. He and his wife Stacy were married in the British Virgin Islands in May, 1992.

Andrew Pollock, Lincoln, is an associate lawyer with Knudsen, Berkheiner, Richardson and Endacott. He married Kris M. Jones Aug. 22, 1992.
