1932

Ruth Schill Donahue, Portland, Me., died July 18, 1993. She was a news correspondent in Nebraska before moving to Washington, D.C., in 1937j. She was a journalist with the Farm Security Administration, the Foreign Economic Administration, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of state for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Donahue. Survivors include a daughter, Bridget Healy of Freeport, Me., and a son, William Donahue of Windsor, Vt.

1940

Frank Hallgren, Lincoln, was featured recently in The Scarlet, a publication of the UNL Public Relations Office. The story focused on Hallgren’s acquisition during World War II of a collection of propaganda leaflets that he and a buddy Bob Sandberg donated to UNL.

1950

Keith Fredrickson, Omaha, merged his agency, Frederickson/Hounshell Assoc., with Smith Kaplan Allen and Reynolds in 1992. His is semi-retired. His daughter Kelley is enrolled at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Eugene Riley, Littleton, Colo., is general manager of Communicopy Writing and Editing in Littleton.

1951

Marylou Luther Imperato, New York, received a Distinguished Alumnae Award from the University of Nebraska Alumni Association in 1992.

1953

Donald and Janet Pieper, Omaha, returned to Nebraska after nine years in California. He is a freelancer, and his wife is director of human resources at Metro Community College in Omaha.

Barbara Teel, Sacramento, Calif., is working part-time for a corporate employee magazine. Her husband, a University of California, Berkley graduate, retired in 1992.

1967

Frank and Paula Partsch, Omaha, have a daughter Catherine who graduated in May, 1993, froma St. Olaf College.

1969

Maxine Burnett Moul, Lincoln, left her position as lieutenant governor of Nebraska in October to become head of the state’s Department of Economic Development.

1970

Linda and Jack Oliglive, Lincoln. Linda is assistant city editor of the Lincoln Star and said she enjoys returning to the college every year to interview journalism intern prospects. Jack is a City of Lincoln firefighter. They have two sons, Andy, 15, and Danny 11. Linda is a past president of and still active in the Lincoln Children’s Museum.

1971

Dewaine Gahan, Oakland, Neb., and his wife Bobbie became sole owners of the Oakland Independent and Lyons Mirror-Sun in April, 1993, after being part owners for 13 years. Dewaine was president of the four-sate Interstate Newspaper Association in 1992, is vice president of the Nebraska Press Advertising Service state board and ahs chaired the award-winning Swedish Festival in Oakland for the last 11 years. He won a journalism grant to travel to Sweden in 1992, and the paper won its sixth and seventh National Newspaper Association awards in 1993.

Kathy Hall, Seattle, is a community relations planner for the Regional Transit Project in Seattle. Her job is to coordinate public involvement efforts for about 30 communities affected by the proposed rail and bus system. She earned a master’s degree in communications with an environmental emphasis from the University of Washington in 1985 and has since worked as a land use reporter and an environmental consultant.

Linda Baldwin O’Hern, Madison, Wis., is the marketing / sales director for Isthmus, an alternative newsweekly in Madison, Wis. She has spent 14 years working for public television and five years in financial marketing national sales.

1972

Paul Campbell, St. Paul, Minn., is owner and president of Campbell Communications, Inc., providing assistance in several communication areas and specializing in video conferencing and distance learning.

1973

Robb Kreckow, Glenwood Springs, Colo., will take over January 1, 1994, as publisher of the Hannibal (Mo.) Courier-Post and its weekly publications, the Hannibal Salt River Journal and the Macon Town and Country News. Krecklow was general manager at the Grand Island Independent from 1988-89 and has been publisher of the Glenwood Springs (Colo.) Post since 1989.

1974

Lisa McClendon Webb, Billings, Mont., is a freelance writer. Her first novel, a mystery published by Walker and Co., New York, is due out in the spring of 1994.

Cheryl Stubbendieck, Lincoln, is vice president of information at the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation. She is currently the president of the Nebraska Society of Association Executives.

1976

Bryant Brooks, McCook, and his wife Peg had their third child, Laura Jane, last February.

Anne Leonard, Sugar Land, Tex., is southern U.S. editor for Petroleum Information. She is, on a regular basis, looking for entry-level writers to cover the oil industry.

Barb Nissen, Lincoln, works for the Center for Prevention Programming, writing parenting programs and student curricula for the prevention of drug abuse.

1977

Daniel Charleston, Omaha, is general sales manager for KQKQ and KKAR in Omaha. He and his wife Sheryl, a 1986 graduate, had a son, Richard, in July 1992. The child is their first together but the fifth between them (three for Dan, on for Sheryl in previous marriages).

Russell Cunningham, Ottumwa, Iowa, is editor of the Ottumwa Courier.

Tim Roessler, San Francisco, Calif., is general sales manager of KRQR / The Classic Rocker in San Francisco. He was the national sales manager at the station for two years and had been local sales manager since 1989.

Kim Shepard, Chicago, is a principal of Shepherd Communications in Chicago. Her diverse client list includes American Airlines, Kraft General Foods, Women Employed, Nike, Seyforth, Shaw, Fairweather, Geraldson as well as Scott Williams and Corey Williams, members of the Chicago Bulls.

1978

John Goosen, a UNL sociology graduate, has been named the publisher of the Grand Island Independent, effective January 1, 1994. A native of Norfolk, Goossen has been publisher of the Hannibal (Mo.) Courier –Post since 1987.

Susan Helmink, Lincoln, has been elected a vice president of the Lincoln chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

Theresa L. Morrow, Fairway, Kan., is management supervisor at Bernstein-Rein Advertising, Inc., in Kansas City, Mo. She is enrolled in the Executive Fellows Program at Rockhurst College and is a board member at the Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Charities.

Lauren Kobza, Omaha, is assistant vice president at Mutual of Omaha. She is in charge of direct response marketing and creative areas.

Richard Paulsen, Cheyenne, Wyo., has been the advertising director of the Cheyenne Tribune Eagle since Jan. 1, 1993.

Richard Sullivan, Cary, N.C., is sports anchor / reporter for WRAL TV in Raleigh, N.C. He and his wife Maria have a daughter, Erin, born in March, 1982, and a son, Ryan, born in December, 1989.

James Alex Stratman, Los Angeles, has been reelected to the board of directors for Aid for AIDS, Los Angeles’ premier direct assistance agency for people living with AIDS and HIV. In addition, he has been elected to a one-year term as the recording secretary for the board.

Mike Davis, Washington, D.C., has been illustrations editor at National Geographic since September, 1992.

1982

Kathy Stokebrand, Milwaukee, is assistant picture editor for the Milwaukee Sentinel.

1984

Deborak Beeling, Omaha, is director of communication for the American Red Cross in Omaha. She is completing her master’s degree in communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, is married and is the mother of two children.

Mary Mumgaard, Washington, D.C., is a video producer / director for the American National Red Cross in Washington.

1986

Philip Brawner, Lincoln, is creative director at Sterling Advertising in Lincoln.

Randy and Sara Bulow, Highlands Ranch, Colo., have a daughter, Amanda, who will be 3 years old in March, 1994. Randy works as a region sales manager for the Andrew Jergens Co. Previously, he worked for Coca-Cola Foods, Ralston Purina and Borden, Inc., in various sales capacities.

Sheryl Charleston, Omaha, is ad sales director for Cox Cable Rep in Omaha. She and her husband Daniel had a boy, Richard, in July, 1992. The child is their first together but the fifth between them (three for Dan, one for Sheryl in previous marriages).

Billie Jo Ann Bieber Olsen, Columbia, Mo., graduated in May from the University of Nebraska College of Law. She passed the bar in August and is now working on a master’s degree in library science at the University of Missouri Columbia.

1987

Ad Hudler, Pittford, N.Y., is a special projects writer with Gannett newspapers in Rochester. He is married to Carol Olson Hudler, vice president for advertising with the Gannett Rochester newspapers. The Hudlers have a daughter, Haley, 2.

Scott Thien, Salem, Ore., recently was promoted to assistant news editor at the Statesman-Journal, Salem. He was previously a copy editor and design editor. He is charged with Page 1 and special projects design / editing as well as assisting in desk operation / production. He and his wife Kelly have two children.

Richard Wright, Eagle, NE, has returned to Nebraska from Dallas where hi was staff photographer with the Dallas Morning News. He is a graduate student at the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications and taught a photojournalism lab in 1992-93. He and his wife have two children: Alley, born in September, 1991, and Aaron, born in May 1993.

Paulette Jones-Brown, Lincoln, received the 1993 Jefferson Award presented by the American Institute for Pubic Service and Omaha’s KETV for outstanding community service. Jones-Brown is employed by Woods Brothers Realty, Lincoln.

1989

Judy Cooper, Zebulon, N.C., is a freelance writer and newsletter editor for a North Carolina manufacturing company. She and her husband Dave an American Airlines pilot, have been married 10 years. They have two daughters: Ashley, 6, and Megan, 3.

Kevin Kuhlman, Davenport, Fla., is manager of audiovisual at Disney World. He married Dina Wyss on Sept.4.

David Poole, Groove City, Ohio, moved to Accent (lifestyle) copy desk at the Columbus Dispatch in November, 1992. He works with a new weekly section designed to draw children into the newspaper.

Michael P. Riley, Los Angeles, is a college basketball sports reporter for the Los Angeles Times.

Eric Salem, Omaha, is the marketing manager for Distribution Management Systems, Inc., a public relations and advertising firm in Omaha.

Kari Kratky Salem, Omaha, is an account executive and copywriter with Bill Ramsey Associates, Inc., a public service relations and advertising firm in Omaha.

Rhonda Sellentin, Minneapolis, is employed at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis as an account coordinator in the promotion department.

1990

Shelly Galagher, Grand Island, has been named Rookie of the Year by the American Heart Association. The award recognizes leadership, professionalism, dedication and performance among the association’s staff members. Gallagher is a filed director for the association, responsible for managing educational programs and fund-raising activities in a 17-county area, including boards of directors in Loup City, Kearney and Grand Island.

Jami Sharp, Scottsdale, Ariz., works for Virgo Publishing, Inc., in Scottsdale. She has been advertising production coordinator for two years.

Brenda Cheng, Lincoln, has been the publications / marketing manager at Bates and Associates, Lincoln, since March 1993.

Ford Clark, Shenandoah, Iowa, is working as a copywriter / talent at KMA in Shenandoah.

Colette Stallbaumer, Des Moines, is retail-advertising account executive for the Des Moines Register.

Jerome Torres, Lawrence, Kan., is an account representative at the Lawrence Journal-World. He was named sales representative of the month in April, July and September. And one of his ads won first place in state competition.

1993

Jennifer Allamby, Lincoln, is working at Ayres and Associates, Lincoln.

Mary Overholt, Omaha, is employed at Bozell, Inc. in Omaha.

Julie Smith, Lincoln, has been promoted to account executive with Sterling Advertising, Communications and Marketing, Lincoln.

Kristine Stelzer, Houston, is employed at Fogarty and Klein Public Relations, Houston.

Melissa Taylor graduated in May as a Chancellor’s Scholar, a student who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average during her college career. She was alos a recipient of the 1992 Radio-Television News Directors Foundation scholarship. Melissa is employed at the University of Nebraska Foundation.
