Curriculum Committee Best Practices

Best Practices for Review of Proposals

  • CASNR Curriculum Committee (CCC) meets the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month during semesters, and once during the summer typically at the end of June. Meetings may be moved to avoid holidays, but typically there are 2 per month.
  • Submitting/Reviewing Proposals
    • All course proposals, whether for new courses or changes to existing courses, must include a course syllabus. The syllabus requirements may be found at: https://casnr.unl.edu/course-syllabus-requirements.
    • In order to ensure that the committee has sufficient time to review the proposals, all proposals must be in CASNR Received status in CIM at 5 pm Tuesday before the CCC Meeting. Any proposals submitted by units after that time will not be included on the agenda.
    • In order to ensure an Undergraduate course change is in place for the following semester, or a new course available to students the following semester, proposals must be submitted to CASNR in time for the last meeting of October or March to ensure that the University Curriculum Committee (UCC) reviews the proposals prior to the end of the semester. UCC does not meet over the summer.
    • Committee members may view course proposals at nextcatalog.unl.edu/courseadmin. You will be prompted to log in with your Canvas credentials. To see the course proposals on the agenda, enter `casnr agenda’ in the search bar. Clicking on any of the courses will bring up the full proposal for that course, including the syllabus and any supporting documents.

    • Other proposals for curriculum action (new programs; new minors; changes to existing programs and minors, etc.) will be distributed to the committee along with the agenda via email. They will also be stored in Box:
  • Proposal Feedback
    • If a proposal is not successful (or if it is approved conditionally), it is the responsibility of the submitting unit’s CASNR Curriculum Committee representative to convey that information back to the submitter/submitting unit.
  • Feedback Loop
    • To ensure that proposals are not forwarded until they have been approved by the CCC and no objections have been raised by units/faculty groups, the Summary of Actions document will be reviewed by the chair of the CCC as well as the Dean’s office representative on the committee.
    • Once the Summary of Actions is distributed to the faculty, in accordance with the CCC By-Laws, units/groups of at least 5 faculty members may raise objections within 5 business days.
    • Once that objection period has passed, the proposals will be forwarded to their respective approval body.
