The short one minute video project was based upon one of several oblique strategies, prompts that inspire creating art from a different approach. The short film I produced was based on the concept of "Humanize Something Free of Error." For a long time I struggled with figuring out what was truly free of error. Machines and technology appear to have stability, but even with their mechanized perfect inputs and outputs, technology does have its fair share of failures and glitches. However, the passage of time itself is a force we cannot stop and never fails to deliver. Thus, I based my short film on the idea of one wonderful day with a focus on the beauty of the sky and the memories the protagonist holds dear. Towards the end, as the sun sets, they reach out as if to capture the moment, to fight back, but eventually they let go, understanding that progression is inescapable. It is not how long you have, but what you do with the time allotted.
Compared to my peers, I felt that my one-minute film was lacking in style. So many other students played up their topics of interest, horror, surprise, comedy, and my finish project felt generic and devoid of flavor. With my augmented reality project, I explored what stylistic elements and themes aligned with myself and worked from there. Enter the Realm of serenity was meant to be a piece to engage the viewer in this fantasy world that populates the current environment though the screen. Viewers are asked to crawl through a tunnel and emerge in a plain of calming blues, beautiful sounds, and curious creatures. While I predominantly have an emphasis on story in my work, this time I played more into the idea of place and character. All of the assets in the Aero project were crafted by my hand which adds that personal touch I was originally seeking.
