Drug Detox & Alcohol Treatment

Everyone struggles in life. Some people are built strong enough to handle the struggles that are thrown their way, but others fall victim to temporary solutions, and become addicts. A lot of addiction stems from a person’s inability to cope with the struggles in their lives. When an individual is unable to take the struggles they are faced with, sometimes they will turn to dangerous and addictive vices to fill that void.

Just because you are strong enough, does not mean everyone in your life is. It is a huge accomplishment to go through life without becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol, but unfortunately statistics show that it is unlikely all the people you care about will have the same fate. It is key to share that strength with others, and to reach out when you see someone struggling, because you just might save their life.

There are life-changing forms of drug detox and alcohol treatment out there for everyone. Trained medical professionals are ready every day to take on new patients and help them create a better life. If you ever think that someone you love is struggling with addiction, do not hesitate to help. The best way to get started is do the proper research and make sure that you say the right things to help them know they have your unconditional support.

A person who is an addict might be met with shame and embarrassment when they are confronted about their problem. They may use denial as a way to cope with the fact they have become an addict, which is why it is key to have several people involved, as well as professionals that can keep tensions low and prevent fights from breaking out.

Sometimes it is best to do an intervention in the form of a letter. When emotions are running high sometimes it will take away from the message that is trying to be sent. When things are written in a letter they can be well thought out and said without interruption. If you do choose to go the route of having a traditional intervention, it is important to hire a professional interventionist.

A professional interventionist is a great addition to have on your side when hosting an intervention for a loved one. They are able to provide an unbiased outside opinion, and they will not get sucked in by the emotions and the heat of the moment. They can help outline end goals, and help everyone involved stay on track and stay grounded in reality. They know the truth about addiction, and they are well informed on all different types of treatment options.

A professional interventionist is equipped with all the knowledge to make the intervention process go as smoothly as possible. Going into an intervention without planning is not a good idea, and a professional interventionist is prepared for all types of situations and outcomes.

Professional addiction help and intervention

If you are unsure if someone in your life is in need of an intervention, get help from an addiction specialist. You can get the validation you need to take the next step in the intervention process or you can get the relief that you are searching for about the possibility of a loved one having an addiction. It is okay to feel like you are in the dark about something like this, especially if you have never had firsthand experience of addiction.

It is okay to feel scared or worried about the chance that someone you care about struggling with an addiction, and it is okay to feel like you have no control. You do have control. You can take their future into your hands by extending a simple hand and offering help. An addiction may be a cry for help, and when no one is helping, the addiction can get worse. It is not too late for anyone.

The time is now to end addiction. There are viable, trustworthy options out there for addicts. Life is not over for addicts and their time on Earth does not have to be a waste. It is never too late to change for the better and become a clean and sober individual.

Marijuana Legalization: History, Impact and Stigma

Western states in the U.S. have often held a reputation for being much more accepting of marijuana. Recreational cannabis is legal for selling, consuming, and purchasing in California, Oregon, and Washington State. Nestled just south of this cannabis corner of the nation is Arizona, a state where only cannabis for medical use is legally available.

In Arizona, a person who is a qualifying patient can request a medical marijuana card. To qualify a person must have one of the following medical conditions: Chronic, severe pain severe nausea, seizures, persistent or severe muscle spasms, cancer, glaucoma, Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), Hepatitis C, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, Agitation of Alzheimer’s disease or Cachexia, or wasting syndrome.

In the state of Arizona, not all medical patients can grow and cultivate their own marijuana plants. A patient is allowed to grow their own cannabis on their own property if there are no medical dispensaries within 25 miles of a patient’s legal address. These patients still have the option to go to a dispensary if they choose to do so. Sometimes people are under the impression that Arizona has recreational cannabis, but all dispensaries still require a legal medical marijuana card for the state of Arizona to even enter the store.

Marijuana legalization has caused much confusion when it comes to cannabis and the workplace. It is illegal for any employer to discriminate against a future employee based on a positive cannabis drug test if the person is a medical marijuana patient in the state. There is a slight loophole, where if an employer can prove that hiring someone with positive drug screening results causes a loss of their license or income, they can reserve the right to not hire them. Additionally, if an employee is using any drugs or under the influence of drugs while working, the employer reserves the right to fire that employee.

Currently, marijuana legalization varies from state to state. In some recreational states, there are licensed store-fronts and dispensaries that any person, resident or not, over the age of 21 can enter the store and purchase large amount of cannabis and marijuana products. In D.C., the law is a bit murkier. There are currently no store fronts that sell cannabis for recreational purposes. Weirdly, residents can get cannabis delivered to their homes, and individuals can visit “pop-up” events where they purchase items and receive cannabis items as a “gift.”

D.C. law contains many loopholes for those who wish to obtain and use cannabis. Cannabis companies often have functioning websites and require ID verification before prices and strains are spoken about. Like in a pipe shop, language must be used specifically and one has to be careful they do not say the wrong thing.

In addition to D.C, 33 states have passed legislation that broadly legalizes marijuana in some form. Recreational weed states include California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Vermont, Nevada, Alaska, Maine, and Michigan. Recreational marijuana is decriminalized, which is basically a step down from recreational legalization, in a large number of states. These include Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia (only in the cities of Atlanta and Savannah), Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico (just in the city of Albuquerque), New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

Opening dispensaries for citizen’s use is not the only way that cannabis legalization benefits individuals. New York recently cleared past criminal records for almost 400 residents that had past low-level cannabis convictions in a civil case. A new law that has just been passed and will go into effect at the end of the month aims to remove all low-level cannabis convictions from all court and criminal records.

This is a huge victory for residents of New York. Many individuals who have cannabis convictions on their record, only have cannabis convictions on their record. The civil case, which featured 360 residents of New York, outlined the ways that the new law is going to go into effect. Until now, a signed affidavit was required for a person to request their record to be cleaned, and that caused many people to typically avoid the lengthy process.

Clearing the records of ‘criminals’ that have marijuana convictions is a huge step for not only marijuana activists but civil rights activists as well. The war on drugs is still not over, and large numbers of people of color are being targeted and prosecuted for drug possession. A black person is much more likely to get pulled over for a “stop-and-frisk,” by a police officer. There is no data that backs up the claim that black people use drugs at a more frequent rate than whites. It is held that people generally use drugs at the same rate despite being white or black. Black people are just more likely to get in trouble with the law for it.

Marijuana legalization is still pending in many areas, but it seems almost every day new legislation and laws are appearing to get rid of the penalties associated with marijuana possession and put new regulations in place to set up dispensary store fronts. Lawmakers and politicians are either going all-in and supporting the move towards legalization, or suffering the loss of many supporters by rejecting the drastic change.

Legalization is also benefiting brands and companies as well. Many corporations are choosing to partner with cannabis companies and collaborate with growers to expand their businesses. Some brands, such as Ben and Jerry’s, are choosing to advocate for cannabis legalization and expunging old cannabis records. This is a great idea for brands that are looking to step into the national spotlight and establish brand recognition as well as loyal customers.

Trauma Therapy and EMDR Therapy for Mental Health

Trauma Therapy and EMDR

In 2013, a Criminal Minds episode aired that featured the search for a serial killer that kidnapped nannies and the children that they were caring for. In this episode, titled “Nanny Dearest,” one of the women escapes and is tasked with giving any and all details that she can remember to the FBI so that they can rescue the child that is still missing. The nanny is clearly traumatized, so one of the agents decides to try EMDR therapy on her to trigger any memories hiding in her brain.

At first glance, EMDR therapy just seems like a fake tool that is used to entertain the viewers. In fact, EMDR therapy is real, and it is used in many clinical settings to provide treatment for patients that have suffered a great trauma.

EMDR Therapy stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. EMDR Therapy sometimes involves a flashing light moving from side to side in order to create rhythmic eye movement in a patient. At the same time, the patient is asked to recall the traumatic events in question. This is what occurred in the episode.

At first the woman appears to resist the memories that are flooding back. Eventually, she recalls the events of her kidnapping, and in the process heals some of her lasting trauma by assisting in the investigation. The episode has a happy ending. Through the use of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, the FBI agents are able to learn vital information that leads to saving the missing boy and capturing the perpetrator. Once again, the Behavioral Analysis Unit prevails against evil and return to Quantico knowing they saved several lives.

Trauma therapy

Though the term ‘trauma therapy’ is relatively new, the idea has been around for a long time. People have been dealing with trauma in their lives for all of human history, but we are just recently starting to understand how to treat it. Trauma occurs when an event has a lasting negative impact on someone’s mental well-being. It can stem from events such as the death of a family member or close friend, a car accident, witnessing a terror, or being assaulted.

When a person witnesses a catastrophic event, or something life-changing, it can feel impossible to move on. The trauma consumes their life and they sometimes can’t shake the feeling of being back in the same exact situation. Chris Kyle, the famous “American Sniper,” was killed when doing work helping a man suffering from PTSD. The man who killed both Kyle and another marine that was present had been in a mental hospital several times over the years and was diagnosed with PTSD. When a mental illness is not treated properly, it can be fatal. Not only fatal for the one suffering but anyone around them as well. PTSD also makes it hard for soldiers to be around loud noises and flashes of light because it triggers memories of wartime.

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, occurs when something traumatic happens in one’s life and the memory keeps coming back. A person will have extreme anxiety about events that have happened in the past. They will often be triggered and sometimes think that they are back at the time of the event or the same traumatic event is occurring once again. PTSD is common in soldiers and victims of sexual assault.

Doctors and medical health professionals are constantly coming up with new methods for treating trauma in their patients. This includes various cognitive behavioral therapy technique, Dialectical behavior therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. Other forms of trauma therapy include exposure therapy, group therapy, and cognitive processing therapy.

Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques

There are many different forms of cognitive therapy techniques used when doctors provide treatment for trauma in their patients. According to Mayo Clinic, CBT is only done for a limited number of sessions. This website makes the claim that cognitive behavioral therapy techniques makes patients aware of inaccurate or false information and causes patients to challenge situations and learn properly ways to respond to them. CBT can not only be used to treat PTSD and trauma in patients, but depression and eating disorders as well.

Dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT, is most typically a combination of individual and group therapy. Psychology Today reports that DBT is both cognitive and behavioral therapy. They also say that DBT creates a safe and controlled place for patients to learn how to combat their negative behavior and deal with the emotions associated with situations that are triggering.

Trauma therapy

When it comes to trauma-based therapy treatment options, doctors and patients are constantly learning. If you or a loved one has ever suffered a great trauma or loss, don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about eye movement desensitization and reprocessing or other forms of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. If you have suffered a trauma and you aren’t talking to a professional about it, it may be time to start thinking about it. Help is out there for victims of traumatic events, and it does work. Don’t let the past hold you back any longer. Seek the help you deserve.

Benefits of Behavioral Assisted Living Centers for Families

Mental illness is slowly becoming a larger and larger part of the general public discourse. More and more people are talking about the issue of mental illness and how it interacts with the healthcare system and how it impacts various communities and individuals. Mental illness is moving from being a taboo topic into a more widely discussed topic, and more and more people are seeking mental health treatment than has ever been seen before.

When a person is suffering from a mental illness, it has the potential to impact their daily lives. Sometimes it is hard to get out of the bed in the morning. Other days they may have mood swings or anxiety attacks. No matter what illness an individual suffers from, living with a mental health disorder is a struggle. It is lifelong and can be debilitating. There are many forms of treatment for mental health disorders such as therapy or medication, but not everything works for everyone. Finding the right combination of medication and treatment can take years, if not an entire lifetime.

Behavioral assisted living

Sometimes when a person suffers from a debilitating mental health disorder, it becomes very hard for their family to handle and take care of them on their own. Both physically and mentally ill persons often fear becoming a burden on their loved ones, which is why behavioral assisted living centers are a viable option for those who are finding their mental illness to be consuming their life as well as the lives of those who surround them. The term behavioral assisted living has many connotations, misunderstandings and misconceptions that come along with it.

Usually when we think of behavioral assisted living, an image pops into our heads that involves an older grandparent who is no longer able to use the bathroom or that forgets to eat, drink water, or take their medication. We think of older people sitting around tables doing puzzles, watching soap operas, and eating pudding cups. We think of quiet. We think of loneliness. We think of sadness.

What is an in-patient treatment center?

That is not the only type of behavioral assisted living that exists. Another popular form of behavioral assisted living is one which helps a family take care of a family member that is suffering from a debilitating mental health illness. Often there is guilt associated with what many say is ‘putting someone in a home.’ When it is a child, a parent may feel as though they have failed as a mother or father to protect and provide for their child. This is not true. As a parent, it is important to give your child the best life you can. Sometimes, the best life they can have is in a place where they can get the care they need from trained professionals and be in an environment where they cannot harm themselves or others.

When it is a spouse or friend that needs to be put into an inpatient treatment center, sometimes we feel as though we are betraying their trust. This person confided in you and came to you during a raw and vulnerable time in their life, and you may feel as though you are pushing the responsibility onto someone else. This is also not true. A true friend and life partner values the safety of their friend or spouse over all things. It is better for them to be alive and angry with you than dead. If they die, you may be left with the guilt of feeling that you did not do enough.

Our parents are the ones who raised us from the moment we were born. They gave us their all, and we can see it in their faces the sacrifices and difficult decisions that have been made for our sake over the years. When a parent is suffering from a mental illness, our first instinct is to take care of them the same way they took care of us so many years ago. While this may be efficient, often we are not equipped to give them the care they so desperately need. Sending a parent to a behavioral assisted living center could be the correct choice to make for their future. You can’t always be there for them, and you know deep down that that isn’t what they want. They do not want you to devote the rest of their time on earth taking care of them, and deep down neither do you.

The guilt that comes along with placing someone close to us in a mental health clinic is inevitable. The feelings of having not done enough are going to come and go, but you can find comfort in the fact that they are living a much more enjoyable and safer life under the protection of mental health practitioners who have done this many times before and know exactly what to do in each situation. Making mistakes in life is destined, but making mistakes in providing lasting care for our loved ones doesn’t have to happen.

Help from a mental health practitioner

In a mental health clinic, your loved one will be receiving top of the line medical care from well-educated and well-trained mental health practitioner. They can diagnosis them properly and give them the treatment that can be life-saving. Mental health practitioners are trained to work with people who are suffering from mental illnesses and they never give up. Trained professionals such as these will be able to provide all types of treatment options as well as give your loved one a life worth living. At centers such as these the top priority is the mental well-being of its patients, and it shows to be true each and every day.

Pet Health

Whether or not you have ever had a pet, odds are you have had to deal with animals in some capacity in your life. Animals are very similar to humans in their relationships and emotions. There is a connection between a pet and its owner then no one could ever compete with. Having an animal as a pet means creating a bond with something that you are responsible for.

Animals, whether in the wild or domesticated, run the risk of catching diseases and illnesses from parasites, other animals, outside, and other places. There is only so much preventative care out there for animals to get to prevent diseases, and there is a high chance that your pet is going to be sick at one point in their life. It is key to always keep your pet up to date on all shots and vaccinations, as well as provide them with safe tick and flea treatment.

A family pet is like a member of the family, so it can be really scary when your pet is sick. Even though they may be like having an additional child in the house, animals need to go to specific specialized doctors, take different medications than humans, and often will react differently than humans when sick. You can’t just take your golden retriever to the local physician’s office. You can’t bring your cat to an OBGYN when you find out she is pregnant.

Human medication is much stronger than animal medication, and sometimes animals are allergic to the ingredients that are in our meds. That is why it is key to never give an animal human medication unless you are told by a doctor that it is okay. Never make guesses or assumptions when it comes to giving your pet medication.

Caring for Your Pets

When your pet is sick, it is important to take them to a reliable and well-trusted veterinarian that has good reviews and good employees. You are putting your little “babies” life in their hands, and you want to make sure they are getting the best treatment possible. It is important for the workers to be both passionate, knowledgeable, and gentle.

If your pet is suffering from a treatable illness, you are lucky. You get to spend more time with your furry buddy. You may not feel so lucky when you see the bill. Since there is no such thing as health insurance for animals, veterinary bills can be thousands and thousands of dollars. It is impossible to put a price tag on your pet’s life, so of course, the best option is to just pay the bill and count your blessings.

Pet Medication Tips

Along with the hefty bill also comes the pet’s medication. Usually vets will just provide a prescription or mediation, and then give you a few tips on how to give it to your pet. Anyone who has a squirmy and wiggly pet will know, it is much easier said than done. Leaving the scene you might look like you just fought off an attacker when really all you were trying to do was help your pet get the treatment to save their life.

There’s a whole list of ways that can make it easier for you to give your pet medication. You can try wrapping your pet in a blanket to restrict their limbs from moving and try and force it down their throat. You can attempt to work as a team, and have one person hold down the animal and the other to give it to them.

Professionals will always recommend speaking to your animals in a calm and relaxed voice before giving them medication. This way they will not be scared and will be caught off guard when you slip them the meds. It is also a good idea to give your pet’s medication right before bed, because then they will be sleepy and easier to control. It is also recommended that pet owners use a spray bottle of water when giving oral pills to a pet, to help the meds slide down the throat more easily.

If none of these methods are working, do not worry, there are tons more! Try making the treatment process a game by creating competitions between pets, offering treats, playing catch or fetch, and taking them to a new place like a park or meadow. You can also try wrapping or mixing the medication in food, hiding it in odorless capsules, or applying the mediation while the animal is eating so they are distracted.

A Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy

Giving your pet oral medication is no small task. That is why choosing a compounding veterinary pharmacy is the best route to go for giving your pet any medications with ease and without any injuries. At a compounding veterinary pharmacy, the doctors can make the medication more appealing to your pets. They can add flavors such as chicken, beef, or fish and turn the medication into something easier to swallow like a gel or paste.

Going to a compound pharmacy means making the treatment process easier for you and your furry friend. No more dirty looks from the corner after you force a peanut butter covered pill down their throat. No more bite and scratch marks covering your arms and legs. Instead, you can give your pet the mediation the same way they get their food, and they might even think they are getting a treat!

Having a sick pet can be terrifying, but it doesn’t have to be. Since there is no way for us to communicate with animals that we are just trying to help them, we can’t reason with them to get them to take their meds. Instead, we can find new and smart ways to trick them.

Emerging Adulthood

Pema Chödrön, an American Tibetan Buddhist, developed a system of mindfulness, centered on compassion. Her compassion cards are a set of 59 Buddhist mantras that one can pick from each day to live by. This weekend I purchased a set off of Amazon for just twelve dollars and for the next few months I will be using a different card each day to try and ground myself in the present moment. As a student, it is easy to get swept up in the commotion and stress of everyday life, so I will be putting each compassion card on top of my to-do list every day as to not forget it and constantly be reminded of it.

These cards derive from the ancient practice of lujong. Today my card reads, “If you can practice even when distracted, you are well trained.” When I first saw this, I was a little confused. How can you practice while also being distracted? Isn’t the point of mindfulness to clear the mind of all distractions? I decided to do some research.

Through the internet I was able to learn that by noticing our distractions, we can pull ourselves into the current moment. Being well trained in meditation means not letting distractions and our emotions overwhelm us in any given moment. This is extremely important when a person is reaching “emerging adulthood,” or the period of time characterized by being in-between late adolescence and early adulthood.

Mental Health in College Students

In a college setting, many students are faced with new and confusing emotions. Some of these emotions can be characterized as mental illnesses. There are many ways to deal with issues of mental health, and one of the best ones is to practice mindfulness meditation.

Compassion cards are not for everyone. Fortunately, there are endless ways for a person to learn how to be present and aware of the moment at hand. This can include meditation. For centuries, meditation has been a tool utilized by all types of people to help ground oneself in the present moment. This means not focusing or living in the past or future but being aware of the moment you are in and not worrying about what has happened or what could happen.

Meditation is usually assumed to be in a yoga studio, with the lights dimmed and music playing. It is seen as something that is done before or after yoga, and that requires one to set out a chunk of time during the day to achieve. Many people do not know that meditation can actually be done anywhere. It can be done on a plane, a bus, or even at the office. One can meditate before falling asleep, or after waking up in the morning. The practice of meditation is very flexible, and you can curtail and create a system that works for you.

College Mental Health Resources

No matter who you are, it is impossible to avoid stress. A young person is most commonly worried about their grades, getting into college, their friends, and their intimate relationships. Adults are often riddled with anxiety about their families, money, and their jobs. No matter your age, it is almost certain that you will experience anxiety and stress-inducing situations in your daily life.

Living in the current moment and being aware of one’s place in the universe can help individuals in focusing on what is important and lessening any tensions or qualms in their mind. It is amazing the wonders that can occur when one clears their mind even for a few minutes. Roommates, coworkers, and even family members can be a source of stress for an individual. Your college can also provide you with mental health resources in the counseling center. Common mental health disorders in young adults include anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder.

Mindfulness Exercises

There are many different mindfulness exercises that one can use to combat stress and anxiety in daily life. One of my favorite ways to ground myself in the current moment is to practice deep breathing exercises. As an individual recovering from a rib fracture, I was given a device from my doctor called an incentive spirometer. This is a small device that helps people with making sure they are fully expanding their lungs. I have learned that this tool is great to use for deep breathing techniques throughout the day. If you do not have access to one of these devices, you can easily look online for guided deep breathing tutorials and videos at all lengths and levels.

Every day I try to do deep breathing exercises at least three times. I keep my spirometer right on my desk, so I can see it out of the corner of my eye when cleaning, working, and doing other stressful activities. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, or like I am going to drown in stress, I take a step back and do a few deep breaths. Just taking a few seconds to focus on the body rather than the mind is all I need to ground myself in the current moment.

Practicing Mindfulness

You don’t need to sit criss-cross on a yoga mat and say “ohmmmmmmmm” to achieve mindfulness. Teen Marijuana Addiction

Marijuana has grown like wildfire around the country as nearly everyone is embracing the drug into their daily lives. Compared to even a decade ago, products containing marijuana and using the drug for treatment have skyrocketed. Dispensaries are cashing in on the trend as more states are legalizing recreational and medicinal marijuana while pop culture is embracing its effects. More teenagers are also gaining easier access to marijuana and often start their “weed journey” by vaping or trying the classic THC-infused pot brownie. From vaping, teens may often move on to trying out marijuana with their friends after school, at parties, or at the comfort of their own home away from parental supervision.

Marijuana addiction can bring on disruptive withdrawal effects, problems with the law, and possible financial if a teenager isn’t careful with their use. Not everyone is the same with drugs, so one “hit” of weed may be either too little or too much for someone to handle. Science experiences and tips of taking marijuana are often spread by word of mouth, the danger lies in teens exploring the drug by themselves. The thrill of trying a drug that’s strictly prohibited by parents and other authority figures becomes exhilarating. Not everyone will want to support your constant use of marijuana, and that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. Let’s review the signs of a teenager having a marijuana addiction and how it can affect them throughout their daily lives.

Marijuana Addiction Red Flags

Any teen who is addicted to marijuana will want to cover up their use, but often taking a closer look at their mental, physical, and daily habits overall will blow their alibis. Some signs of addiction to remember include:

● Marijuana addiction doesn’t discriminate against anyone. The most unsuspecting of teenagers could be smoking weed or eating edibles behind closed doors for different reasons. Just like any drug, frequent use of marijuana leads to a high tolerance for it in their body. This means that a person will start needing more and more of the drug in order to achieve the same quality “high” than before. Teens then fall into the trap of taking more over the course of a few months to a few weeks and suffer from the physical and financial issues their addiction brings.

● Marijuana addiction leads their victims to suffer from heavy withdrawal with the “comedown”. Going on and off from marijuana highs aren’t the most pleasant experience. Teens who are severely addicted or very sensitive to foreign substances can experience withdrawal symptoms like lost appetite, an extreme appetite, headaches, irritability, insomnia or anxiety, bloodshot eyes, or mood swings. They may feel like they can’t move from the bed and get anything important done. Over time, their weight gain or sleepless nights will start to show. Look out for these signs of decreasing health, a new eating or sleeping routine, and a negative mood throughout the day if you think someone or you have a marijuana addiction. They may start to have outbursts of anger if you question what they have been up to during the day or night.

● Marijuana addiction leads to heavily decreased cognitive abilities. Even the sharpest kid at school will not be able to react or think as fast if they are abusing marijuana every day or several times a week. They won’t be able to process quick questions or problems, especially if they are high in school or during extracurricular activities. They may seem more careless now about their responsibility and blame others for what they missed out on. If someone calls them out on their behavior or lack of showing up, they may lash out in anger or complain that people just don’t understand them well enough. These are all walls of defenses that a marijuana addict could put up because they know the truth about their lifestyle.

A marijuana addiction causes teenagers to behave abnormally. A teen that’s usually shy or stays at home may start going out more at night and hang out with new “clubs” at school. They may start to hang out longer after sports practice or discover new areas around town to explore. Either way, this could be innocent but if you’re seeing other telling signs of a possible addiction definitely step in and ask them what’s going on. Hanging out with friends who encourage weed will only make them want to use the drug more to feel accepted and in with the crowd. Being a teenager often means seeking approval and respect from others, so a teen who doesn’t even enjoy marijuana may be taking part in smoking it away.

A teen could start to isolate themselves in response to their addiction as well and disappear from the activities that they originally loved most. If someone really enjoyed their soccer games or playing the flute in band, addiction may cause them to practice less and become less interested in participating at all. They may bluff that the activities are dumb, waste time, or aren’t important anymore. They may also have no time at all to feed into their passions anymore because the majority of their day now revolves around marijuana. Since highs usually last a couple of hours, a teen can be extremely unproductive during this time. Open up your eyes to what they could be covering up.

The Future Of Marijuana Addiction

Marijuana is one of the less intense drugs out on the market. Culture is shifting towards accepting the drug for medical healing, reviving stress, and dealing with anxiety compared to the past few decades. More states will begin to accept the drug legally and the boundaries for smoking or eating foods containing marijuana in public will slowly widen. As we shift into a society that starts to incorporate marijuana in our daily lives, being aware of the risks that come with the drug is crucial. Marijuana can be enjoyable yet addictive, and people with addictive personalities especially need to stay mindful of their usage. Any type of dependency on the drug needs to stay away from frequent usage so their body doesn’t grow accustomed to a high.

If you’re going through a marijuana addiction, you need to get over your fears of judgment to become sober. if your friends or family are judging your choice to stay off drugs, you need to at least temporarily disconnect from their opinions so you can get help for treatment. The sooner you seek professional help for drug addiction the better chances you can reach sustainable sobriety. You may feel powerless and hopeless right now, but that isn’t a permanent feeling if you make changes in your daily actions to stay off drugs. Explore different options for natural treatment first before taking a medication if you aren’t fond of side effects as well. As you choose what methods are right for you, gain a professional consultation at a nearby rehab clinic and see where their guidance leads you!

What Is Pain Pill Addiction?

Battling an addiction to pain pills is possible but comes with a variety of obstacles depending on the patient. Thousands of people young and old around the country are being prescribed pain pills from their personal doctors, getting them from over the counter pharmacies, and passing them around to use with friends or family. A Phoenix recovery center is proving that using holistic and natural treatment methods can successfully allow patients to recover from their dependencies. Without the side effects of using additional medications to overcome withdrawal symptoms or tough cravings, patients who use natural therapies can focus on healing their body, mind, and spirit through one program itself.

Holistic therapy is a branch of recovery that has been around for a long time and has no signs of stopping. More patients every year are learning about the benefits of using natural holistic methods and gaining crucial emotional needed to get through the toughest days of recovery. Let’s look at the benefits of turning to natural treatment for addicts to get over their pain pill abuse. Learning more about the options available could save you or someone you know from taking a treatment route that could only cause more mental and physical problems in the future, before the consequences grow too large.

Outpatient Rehab For Pain Pill Addiction

Treating pain pill addiction takes time, patience, commitment, and personalization to be done successfully. Addiction is not a one size fits all situations since every patient who enters a treatment center needs customized guidelines to fit their medical priorities. Going to a treatment center is recommended since patients are able to stay accountable, gain needed medical and emotional support, and spend time focusing on conquering their addiction instead of juggling their normal responsibilities. Some benefits of using outpatient rehab and natural therapy to overcome pain pill addiction include:

Patients report fewer symptoms of withdrawal and cravings. Using therapies like acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage, music therapy, and even diet and exercise classes allows patients to rebuild their systems. Often the stress and imbalance that is built up from toxins from pain pills create additional symptoms that patients believe traditional medicine can cover. By addressing their systems of headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or anxiety at the root, patients learn how to think and carry themselves differently. They also learn how to de-stress during tougher moments so their symptoms are not as intense as before. Learning these skills is key before stepping out again in the “real world” and navigating obstacles with a sober lifestyle.

Patients receive care with understanding the nature of their pain pill addiction. Pain pills are one of the most addictive drugs on the market. Pain receptors are blocked during a “high” and can carry important messages to the brain to no longer feel pain and block out any discomfort in general. When too much of the drugs are taken in after a short period time our bodies, our bodies start to emerge with new symptoms like mood changes, low energy, headaches, insomnia, and muscle spasms. The dosage needed to feel pleasure again also slowly increases over time and havoc it wreaks on their digestive system that has to process the strong chemicals during each exposure. If a person goes through an overdose from painkillers before rehab, treatment centers will require them to spend a couple of days to detox and rid it completely from their bodies. Detoxing the body is crucial and all traces of foreign chemicals must be eliminated before true healing can begin for a patient. Phoenix recovery centers will admit patients at this phase but it’s important to remember that everyone might need a different period of time to completely detox their body.

Pain pill addicts benefit from meeting new people who are trying to improve their lives. Not all addicts admitted to a center are the same, but they are there for the same reasons: to overcome a dependency on pain pills. For individual therapy sessions and group therapy sessions, patients are placed with people closer to their background or age or can request a type they feel most comfortable with. Group counselors lead these sessions and allow enough time for discussion of thoughts, struggles, and tips between addicts who need support. They learn how to deal with their triggers and better combat the urge to relapse after they finish rehab. Group therapy meetings patients can also go over the day’s agenda, educate the patients about living with sobriety and practicing good mental health, and bring in guests who successfully transitioned back to their normal life after addiction recovery. These meetings force a sense of community between patients who need an outlet and may feel lonely initially in the process. They are left feeling more bonded to their peers, hopeful for the future, and determined to stay accountable to their plan for success.

Patients benefit from meeting with a chosen psychiatrist at least once a week to look at any possible side effects, evaluate their process, and make adjustments in dosage where needed. Patients dealing with intense feelings of depression, anxiety, or PTSD state that this one of the best benefits with going to a treatment center. All aspects of their health are taken into consideration and outpatient care after the program is finished keeps tabs on the status of their disorder. No patient will be forced to return back to work, school, or other stressful situations in life without ample education and personal guidance on how to cope.

Overcoming Pain Pill Addiction

Treatment and learning how to live sober is a lifelong commitment including making the right decisions every day. New habits must be formed as well as new thinking skills about stressful situations. Anyone can suffer from pain pill addiction relapse but can learn how to overcome tough temptations if they choose to stay away from negative people or places that put pressure on them hem. Phoenix treatment centers are one of the locations around the country that provide post-treatment programs for anyone who needs continuing care option once leaving the facility. If a patient was assigned to a personal counselor or case manager during their rehab stay at a treatment center, most are encouraged to continue communication and have weekly check-ins during the weeks shortly after the program is over. This allows accountability and motivation to continue for the recovering addict as they transition back into the hustle of daily life.

Exploring Value of Naturopathic Medicine

We all want what's best for our bodies and minds to recover. We also want to use methods that work efficiently. Some patients prefer being treated traditionally by doctor diagnosis and using medication to cover up their symptoms until they fade away. Others rather treat their symptoms at the root, while healing their mind and spirit as well. The goal of treating the entire body itself is encompassed by the practice of naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic philosophy focuses on treating the individual, not simply the disease or diagnosis that is causing problems in their body. This means that a person can benefit from being treated holistically and encouraging restoring peace, balance, and overall natural healing from the body itself.

When I first heard of the practice, I was skeptical about its promises and thought that it was just another pseudoscience way of healing patients in expensive facilities. Yet, the reality is that naturopathic therapy actually brings long term healing, balance, and no painful withdrawal symptoms to patients who no longer have to rely on medications to feel better. It’s important to understand how a therapy type works before jumping into it yourself. Let’s walk through the benefits of turning to naturopathic medicine to treating your mind, body, and soul.

How Does Naturopathic Medicine Work?

Since naturopathy has been brought to our country in the 1800s, many patients are opting for the customized and natural approach it takes for sustainable healing. Some benefits for taking part in naturopathic medicine include:

Having a doctor who understands your medical history, goals, and obstacles. Before any naturopathic treatment begins, a person meets with their assigned doctor to talk about their medical family background, what symptoms or disorders they have experienced in the past, and discuss their current physical and mental health. The doctor may take a series of tests to check on a patient’s weight, blood pressure, and other metrics to get a full sense of where a patient is at.

After testing, a doctor will derive a full-scale naturopathic medicine focused healing plan. This plan will focus on education and prevention, as well as classes for improving diet, exercise, or practicing stress management. They might include other holistic therapy methods like herbal medicine, acupuncture, aromatherapy, and massage therapy to create balance in their body. The patient can provide feedback if there’s any part in the plan they are uncomfortable with or would like to change. The length of this plan can also vary on how long the doctor would like the patient to go through treatment, but typically it lasts several weeks to a few months under their guidance.

Naturopathic medicine is provided by a variety of medical experts. Traditional naturopaths have not attended medical school but may have years of experience in treating and patients. While some of their track records look solid, it’s in your best practice to do enough research and talk to past patients to ensure they’re credible. The next groups of practitioners include medical doctors or nurses who attended school and studied naturopathic medicine. These individuals are highly trained and are tuned to listening to a variety of symptoms to consult patients. Do your research to see what hospitals in your community have doctors who include naturopathy in their portfolio? The next group is naturopathic doctors themselves who solely provided the treatment route to patients. They have studied the area to a high degree and also are knowledgeable about holistic practices that tie in with the treatment.

Naturopathic treatment is a great option if you need a “tune-up”. Patients who are dealing with extreme diseases aren’t encouraged to go with this treatment route since they need more urgent care or potent medications to fight it off. Patients who need surgery also shouldn’t turn to the method since naturopathic doctors are only legally able to stitch up small wounds or other minor issues. Patients who are experiencing more minor problems in their digestion, energy levels, allergies, feelings of pain, and even hormones are a great fit for the method since such problems are more easily healed with natural treatment.

Naturopathic medicine can be used in conjunction with traditional medicine. Just because a patient is going through major surgery or disease treatment doesn’t mean they’re not a candidate for naturopathy as well. In many cases, patients can use both conventional and naturopathic medicine to treat symptoms and revitalize their well-being. For example, naturopathic remedies are known to aid the side effects of chemotherapy and other intrusive treatments for cancer. Patients going through it are required to tell their primary doctor about what naturopathic treatments they’re using so no possible complications occur. Both doctors can work together so the patient’s health is best optimized for healing.

Choosing Your Treatment

Finding the right naturopathic treatment plan for you doesn’t have to be complicated. Any patient should do their research on who is a highly trusted provider in their area and check what their health insurance plan covers as well. Any option to save on healing programs should be taken as long as it doesn’t sacrifice the quality of care a patient receives. For a person that wants to feel healed and more energetic from the inside-outside, naturopathic medicine is a great method that doesn’t rely on pills or syrups to target symptoms. Thousands of patients every year are using the method to strengthen their mind, create balance in their body, and feel more “themselves” again after months of pain or anxiety. There’s no harm in using what nature has provided us to encourage our bodies natural healing process. Start your program as soon as possible once you find a provider and health center that fits your needs!

Club Drugs: A Game of Russian Roulette.

Club Drugs

Club drugs are illicit drugs used in the rave phenomenon like parties and nightclubs that are becoming increasingly popular with young adults and adolescents to stay awake for long periods of time. This allows them to continue the party for hours on hours to ensure the fun never stops. These drugs can include GHB (liquid ecstasy), MDMA (Molly or ecstasy), flunitrazepam (roofies), ketamine (special K), and LSD (acid). The use of MDMA or Molly has become extremely popular for millennials, which is primarily a result of recent trends in music. MDMA not only allows for an extreme and overwhelming feeling of excitement and happiness, it also allows for the user to sustain energy for hours. It is known to intensify the five sensory experiences as well. After Molly has left your system, a “crash” usually occurs, which brings along the feeling of depression and emotional withdrawal.

Today, most drugs are synthetic. You may be asking yourself, what are synthetic drugs? Synthetic drugs are composed of man-made chemicals, not natural ingredients. Given that illegal drugs are unregulated, drug dealers often sell fake Molly to save money and generate a greater profit. Occasionally, people have adverse reactions to the synthetic drug and fake Molly, making it a much more dangerous game of Russian roulette. Just by taking one pill, it can cost you your life. It doesn’t matter if you have taken the drug before. It is just as dangerous each and every time. Mixing club drugs with the use of alcohol is extremely dangerous and should be avoided when going to a rave scene like a party or nightclub. It is essential to understand the side effects and risks of MDMA before taking it, if you decide that you cannot attend these rave events without it.

Club Drug Effects

Club drugs are not all fun and games. With today’s society and popular music like electronic dance music, you should know what you are getting yourself into before agreeing to put Molly in your system. Typically, the clubbing scene is centered around alcohol and music. Because of that, it is not uncommon for club drugs to be mixed with the consumption of alcohol. This is very dangerous as it poses a threat to your overall health.

MDMA side effects include muscle tension, confusion, impaired judgment, thirst, anxiety, nausea, paranoia, hallucinations, fainting, chills, or sweats, and the list goes on. Although these side effects vary depending on the person, these are the most common and can appear as early as ten to twenty minutes after consumption.

After consistent use of the drug, people may report having a lack of focus, being less productive, having memory loss, and growing depression. This is the result of MDMA long-term effects, which includes the deterioration of the brain. Although this evidence is not concrete because the side effects are different for everyone, some research points in this direction. Although by mixing alcohol and club drugs, like MDMA, to intensify the high and enjoyment at the time, the real damage is happening within your body and it is happening gradually over time. These people are putting themselves at risk for several diseases like liver disease, nerve damage, cognitive disorders like memory loss, and the list continues. You may not even know this is happening to you because it is working slowly and steadily from within your body. Once you realize that you’ve developed a particular disease or disorder, it is typically too late to do anything about it. It is important to know the side effects now to stop taking these drugs and to take care of your health for the future.

Getting Help

If you or a loved one is in need of getting treatment for addiction to a club drug, like Molly, please reach out for help before it is too late and the damage becomes reversible. Options that can be taken include seeking therapy, whether that is individually, in a group setting, or with family, finding a support group, and joining a treatment program. When considering therapy options, it is important to understand what would be the most beneficial to you or your loved one, as everyone is different and treatment should be catered to that person. Group therapy involves other individuals with substance use disorders that are relatively in the same age group; whereas, family therapy involves family members to participate in the setting. Inpatient treatment programs may be beneficial to isolate you or your loved one from the bad influences encountered in the outside world and focus on the recovery process. This can either be voluntary or involuntary, depending on the severity of the addiction and age of the individual. Don’t be afraid to talk to a professional counselor or doctor who specializes in MDMA treatment. They tend to know the most and can provide excellent personal recommendations that are unique to you.

No one is the same. No treatment will be exactly the same for anyone, even if someone else needs help with the exact same substance. The treatment for addiction is a slow process because withdrawals can be severe and just as damaging to the body. No one day will be the same either during treatment. For example, you may have a great day after stopping the drug and then the next day you feel completely awful and sick. Treatment needs to be monitored closely. The path to sobriety is hard but definitely worth it. Be sure to set healthier goals and habits for yourself while going through treatment and try to find someone to keep you accountable. Moral support and positive feedback can be the best medicine for finishing treatment and living a healthier, happier, and prosperous life.
