Initial Teaching Certification and Added Teaching Endorsements
Initial Teaching Certification Only
Prospective students who pursue initial teaching certification in the following endorsement areas are encouraged but not required to pursue a graduate degree, such as a Master’s, Ph.D., Ed.D., or a Graduate Certificate:
- Mathematics Education (Grades 6-12)
- World Language Education: French, German, or Spanish (Grades 6-12)
M.A. leading to Initial Teaching Certification
Prospective students may apply for a Master of Arts degree leading to Initial Teaching Certification in the following endorsement areas:
When applying, students must complete two applications—one for initial teaching certification and one for the Master of Arts program. Although the coursework is grouped together, the initial teaching certification and M.A. are recognized as two separate programs by the University.
- Biology Education (Grades 7-12)
- Business, Marketing, and Information Technology Education (Grades 7–12)
- Chemistry Education (Grades 7-12)
- Earth and Space Science Education (Grades 7-12)
- Elementary Education (Grades K-6)
- English Language Arts Education (Grades 6-12)
- Mathematics Education (Grades 6-12)
- Physics Education (Grades 7-12)
- Science Education (Grades 7-12)
- Secondary English Education (6–12)
- Secondary Social Studies Education (Grades 6–12)
- World Language Education: French, German, or Spanish (Grades 6-12)
Added Teaching Endorsements
Teachers who are already certified to teach may pursue an additional teaching endorsement. In accordance with Rule 24 of the State of Nebraska Department of Education, a supplemental endorsement means meeting the requirements set forth in the content area of the endorsement. Students who are seeking an additional endorsement must also be enrolled in a graduate degree program, such as a Master’s, Ph.D., Ed.D., or a Graduate Certificate.
