Athletic Training Student Association (ATSA)

The goal of ATSA is to provide athletic training students admitted into the education program with an opportunity for educational, professional and financial support though the use of continuing education, scholarship and research opportunities, and networking to enhance the student's curriculum and clinical experiences. The association helps students to be positive ambassadors of the athletic training community. As a member, you will be provided with opportunities to grow as a future athletic trainer and a leader within the field of study

Due to changes in the athletic training industry, athletic training programs nationwide, including Nebraska’s, are in a period of transition as they move from undergraduate to graduate level training.

Majoring in athletic training is no longer an option for incoming undergraduate students at any college or university.

The athletic training program at Nebraska is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. The Commission now mandates that accredited professional athletic training programs must result in the granting of a master’s degree in athletic training to sit for the Board of Certification Exam. Bachelor’s programs can no longer admit students into the athletic training major.

Nebraska remains committed to supporting the development of future athletic trainers. We are confident there is a path for you at Nebraska. A master’s degree program in athletic training has been developed and is expected to begin within the next several years.

As a result of this change, the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences at Nebraska has identified the Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science (NEHS) option as the best degree program for students wishing to pursue a master’s degree in athletic training. This program offers many of the necessary pre-requisites required by the future athletic training master’s degree program.
