Kevin McMullen

Kevin McMullen hails from the far-away land of Bettendorf, Iowa, and received a BA in both English and Journalism from the University of Iowa. He received his MA and PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the English Department. He is the Project Manager and an Associate Editor of The Walt Whitman Archive, and has worked on the staff of the Archive since arriving at UNL in 2010. Kevin is also the editor and co-creator of Fanny Fern in The New York Ledger, an online project working to digitize the newspaper columns of the 19th century writer Fanny Fern. He also serves as the Project Manager of the Charles Chesnutt Digital Archive. He has published essays on both Whitman and Fern, and his dissertation and ongoing personal research focuses on literary responses to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. His teaching and research interests include 19th century American literature and culture, periodical literature, digital humanities, editorial theory, and textual recovery.
