The UNL Libraries comply with the copyright laws and fair use guidelines.

We expect that faculty members who place items on reserve have made appropriate arrangements in this regard.

• fair use guidelines only apply to reproduced copyrighted works separated from their original source
• there are no copyright restrictions on placing whole works in their original formats onto reserve
• we are able to place a chapter from a book, and a single article from a journal issue onto reserve
• several chapters and articles may be placed on reserve for the same course, as long as each item is not from the same source
• we allow copyrighted solution sets and exams to be placed on reserve without seeking copyright permission
• If more than one chapter or article from a single source is requested, then copyright permission from the publisher may be required. Contact the reserve assistant at your library for further arrangements.

Non-copyright materials, such as syllabi, class notes, and/or solution sets and exams created within the department are always accepted.
