Welcome and Introductions
- Ice Breaker - Ask all community members to share what motivated them to attend the 2nd meeting (could be done in small groups).
- Review ground rules - Establishing ground rules will help productively guide the conversations. Share the suggested ground rules and ask for others:
- Assume good intentions
- Listen to understand
- Participate fully
- Balance participation
- Focus on solutions
Review Highlights from the first meeting
Note:Display collective flip charts from first meeting around the room - i.e., what they liked about community, strengths, values and the expect/like/love
- Ask for additional information that needs to be added to the flip charts
- Distribute summary of first session
Review the results quickly (15-20 minutes). Break into small groups around the following three questions:
- What confirmed what you already knew?
- What surprised you?
- What do we need to know more about/Are there gaps in the data?
Note
Distribute these handouts:
- The three questions listed above
- The summary discovery tool results for each characteristic
Initial Priorities
At the first conversation, ways to strengthen each of the ECAP characteristics were identified. Considering the discovery tool results,
- What additional things need to be considered in respect to the4 community's values and likes from session one?
Note:
The sheets from those conversations should be available through handouts and/or taped on the wall.
- Are there things that need to be considered before we prioritize and move forward?
Note: This can be done in small groups with report backs or as a large group conversation depending on time available and number of people. - To get an idea on your priorities, which characteristics do you feel are the most important to strengthen?
Note: There are several ways to have this conversation. You can have a small group or large group conversation. Or, you can give each person three dots. Ask each person to put a dot on the three characteristics on which the community should focus. Add up the numbers and have the following conversation that creates opportunity for feedback. - How do these potential priorities fit into a longer term vision for the community?
- How do we engage a broader group of people for support?
Note:
Document the responses from those participating. Encourage participants to attend future sessions and to ask others in the community their thoughts on the priorities.
- Continue discussion on setting priorities
- Begin to identify initial characteristic priorities
Note:
Debrief with the steering team following the session. Distribute a summary of the session before the next meeting.
